Rule One Protein, also known in some fitness circles as R1 Protein, is an elite protein powder experience that’s widely used and often hailed as
the best protein powder you will ever use. With the recent advent of Hydro Whey 100, we feel that’s a rather debatable label, however, you can’t go wrong with Rule One Protein no matter which camp you reside in. In today’s R1 Protein review, we take a closer, more in-depth look into what makes Rule One such a potent option as a protein powder supplement. We break down the ingredients, we investigate the manufacturer, and we break down any significant downsides to using Rule One. We also tackle the value.
Rule One Proteins Company
Rule One Proteins is a supplement manufacturer that is hyperfocused on protein supplements which support an array of different fitness points. They offer supplements for pre-workout, post workout, strength, recovery, and more. While Rule One Proteins is a large company, they have remained staunchly focused on the protein supplement vertical. To me, this is a good indication of a company that opts to stay in its wheelhouse rather than attempt to stray for the sake of expanded market share. Their website is located here.
Rule One is based in Aurora, Illinois. Here’s a closer look at their supplement production lines.
Rule One Protein Ingredients
We can talk about Rule One as a global and trusted manufacturer until we are blue in the face, but the truth is, all that matters is the ingredients. When it comes to protein supplements, ingredients are king. Don’t get me wrong, you most certainly want to understand that you aren’t getting ripped off by a supplement company, so having a solid understanding that the manufacturer is trustworthy is the best start, however, if the ingredients are thin, inadequate, or lackluster, the protein powder simply isn’t going to produce results.
R1 Protein produces results. And we love results.
If the protein powder is filled with junk, like too many artificial flavors or nasty fillers, you might end up doing more harm than good.
R1 Protein does good – real good.
What Rule One Protein Doesn’t Have
There is no sugar, no lactose, no evil gluten, no nasty creamers, and only a single carbohydrate in the R1 Protein formula. Many of R1’s competitors are filled with crap ingredients that often have detrimental effects on your body and your workouts. There is no point in taking a protein supplement that’s filled with junk as you will be defeating the purpose of your ultimate goal. Mid-level, and certainly cheap, protein powder supplements are often ripe with junk fillers, carbs, sugars, and general nastiness. The general public, however, often doesn’t realize that they are getting scammed when they purchase a cheap protein powder typically found in highly-discounted Facebook offers or on drug store shelves.
R1 Ingredients – What Matters
R1 ingredients are composed of three different sections (they keep it simple, yet powerful): Proteins, BCAAs, and Glutamine.
Whey Protein Hydrosylate combined with Whey Protein Isolate
Cheaper protein supplement experiences notoriously use a load of different protein types. They do this because it enables them to market as “x amount of protein” per serving, plus highlight that one of the proteins is a solid protein. But the truth is, you’re getting mostly junk proteins for the sake of hocking their product.
R1 Protein only contains Whey Protein Isolate and Whey Protein Hydrosylate. R1 contains no protein concentrates or junk fillers. Both of these protein versions are the cleanest you will find. In a 2013 study, researchers found that whey protein hydrosylate induced elevated muscle increases when taken following a heavy workout. The science is certainly supportive that this protein version is as clean and effective as they come.
BCAAs
There are six grams of BCAAs in R1 Protein ingredients, which is essentially flanking 25 grams of protein per serving. That’s a potent hit. There isn’t any legitimate debate over branched chain amino acids and their effectiveness in the muscle recovery department. BCAAs are, in fact, essential to the recovery process. Many protein powder supplements skimp in this department, but not Rule One. BCAAs expedite the muscle building process. Additionally, BCAAs are contributors to fat burning in general. Additional muscle plus a loss of overall body fat is truly how fitness dreams are made.
And there is more…
BCAAs highly contribute to neutralizing lactic acid, which spawns sore muscles. The less sore your muscles are, the quicker you can return tot he gym and hit the weights again. Over time, this means more gains and greater fat loss. This is truly science being on your side.
Glutamine – Get Your HGH
Rounding out R1 Protein ingredients is glutamine, which is scientifically proven to help elevate HGH and contribute to a more streamlined protein metabolism. This is a nice addition to an already powerful formula. Glutamine helps reduce cases of wasted muscle.
But Glutamine has even further reaching benefits than just in the gym. Glutamine is a known agent of positive digestive health, which in turn helps benefit the brain. Many people have healed ulcers supplementing with glutamine. Science has also confirmed that glutamine can assist in improving focus, concentration, and memory.
R1 Protein Exemplifies What a Protein Supplement Should Be
For those of you who work hard at the gym, you know that wasted gains are the enemy of your labor. There is no point in working out hard if you aren’t fully realizing maximum benefits. A cheap or scammy protein powder, or no supplement at all, can absolutely create such an environment. Protein supplements such as Rule One and Hydro Whey 100 are proven to work as hard as you do.
Rule One is a clean experience that lacks the junk fillers and heavy dairy and carbs that tend to defeat the intent of living a healthy lifestyle and working out. Yes, it will cost you a bit more than the junk protein supplement on the shelf at CVS, at least you know you are getting a quality supplement out of R1.
R1 Protein Taste
I know, results always trump taste, but taste certainly does matter to all of us. The better a supplement taste, the more likely we are to use it. With R1, taste matters less because it works so darn good that I’d drink it down even if it tasted like vinegar mixed with diesel fuel. Here’s the thing; the chocolate and vanilla versions taste exactly as billed. So if you like chocolate, or you like vanilla, you are going to be all good. If you hate either of those, you aren’t going to be so good. Taste is subjective which is why I choose to spend as little time as possible on the matter.
